OBJECTIVE

To Design and implement the Remote Radar Display Unit/ Video Display Unit.

 

PROJECT SCOPE

RRDU/VDU is a system to display and monitor activities observed by a radar unit at a remote location. In this system, one of Hardware Units viz. Automatic Data Handling System (ADHS) or Futuristic Automatic Data Handling System (FADHS) is attached to the computer through serial port and transmits data continually. The application developed runs on the computer to interpret the data received from the Hardware unit and display it on the attached display console.

 

KRITIKAL'S ROLE

The RRDU constituted of different components. It uses the tracks to obtain the various information about the aerial vehicle. The data transfer takes place through two different types of packets:
  • Packet from ADHS
  • Packet from FADHS.

Both of these packets can be again categorized on various parameters. There is a co-ordinate system in place which uses the information provided by various packets (for eg. Velocity and location) and convert them for the VDU/RRDU. It uses various technologies like Co-ordinate mapping and translation to complete the process. It also supports panning in zoom-in mode to help navigate complete region. This is attached to the display panel, which is the actual screen of the application. It displays all the tracks and related information for user consumption. All tracks are presented in this panel as per various features selected.

The display unit has various options for informative rendering of information like

  1. Zoom: Resizing and custom viewing feature of scroll Pane. All tracks information will not scale up.
  2. Panning: Supported with custom viewing feature of scroll Pane. In this position selected will be set as center of the screen.
  3. Rmarker: Displays co-centric circles for feature as part of background for easy comprehension of information.
  4. Azmarker: Azimuth marker lines become part of background if this option is enabled.
  5. Text: It enables display of track information viz track number and height along with track on screen. The text is placed in left top position of each track normally. And position of text would change automatically if it overlaps with a track.
  6. Past Position: Past positions are maintained for each track. And these past positions for each track are displayed if this option is enabled.
  7. Map1/Map2: To support this feature with fast update requirement, We generate an initialized image for each of the maps once. And if any of map option is enabled, corresponding map image will become part of background.
  8. Range Bearing (Pigeoning, Homing & R/B): all these features are supported with the help of Mouse Event interface in Display panel.
  9. Map Edit facility: It is used to generate and edit maps which can be used as background in the display panel. It has features to draw point, line and circles specified in lat/long.

The system designed can be connected through a serial port and can be configured through a Configuration/Settings window along with other settings for the device. The device also contained a Map Editor for designing of maps from the data gathered. Along with main application, a simulator application was also provided to test functionality and performance of the main application in a real time scenario.
