CLIENT

Client is a one of premier firms in USA in the domain of 3D Animation and Visual Effects.

 

OBJECTIVE

To develop realistic models of architectural scenes, real estate or historic monuments and provide walkthroughs. The scenario of a room in a house is chosen to demonstrate the concept. The constructed model can then be edited for various purposes.

 

PROJECT SCOPE

The project included conceptualizing, designing and developing a system to build a realistic model of an architectural scene, using 2D images with minimal manual interaction, and providing a walkthrough for the same. The scope comprised of developing an environment in which the model could be developed and if required the walkthrough could also be generated. Also, the scope demaned that only planar surfaces can be modelled but work is being done to reconstruct free form surfaces.

 

KRITIKAL'S ROLE

An intuitive and user friendly system was developed for building 3D models out of given 2D images.The program consists of the following features:

  • Semi-automatic 3D modeling: A friendly user interface that requires minimum manual work from the user’s side has been developed. It uses semi-automatic methods to reconstruct 3D models of individual models which can be then stitched together using an interactive method to get a raw but combined 3D model of the scene. One can then easily walkthrough the constructed model. Mouse and keyboard based interface is provided to navigate through the reconstructed walkthrough inspecting the various surfaces and items.

  • Manual Correction: When the model has been constructed, a user can manually edit the model thereby creating surfaces that were not visible in the images and even changing the look of the model totally. For eg. One can increase the height of a plane or decrease the width.

       

  • Retexture Scene: user can change the texture of the various faces in the scene thereby providing him the same scene but appearing in a totally different way. For eg. One can see how a painting would look on a wall or if he painted the room with some other colour how would it look.

  • Importing Pre-Built Objects: One can even import pre-built objects such as furniture items or any other object to see how it can be placed in the scene and what effect will it have on the appearance.
